Aqaba Thermal Power Station was registered  as a Clean Development Mechanism projects (CDM) in the United Nations on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in  2008 , the company received the award for best project for the year 2008 for the divert project in ATPS, the project was considered a unique accomplishment  to the specifications coincided with the award criteria and of its ability to reduce the amounts of carbon dioxide (CO2) emitted during the process of converting burning the HFO to A NG burn


 the organizers have expressed their  appreciation for the role of Jordan in general and to Central Electricity Generating Company, especially in improving the local and global environment and the fight against global warming through this project.

This project is the first project in Jordan falls within the Clean Development Mechanism CDM emitted from the Kyoto Protocol and the one of the most important and largest in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) projects.

 CEGCO has transferred combustion station in Aqaba Thermal of heavy fuel oil (HFO) to natural gas has been able reduce the quantities of toxic greenhouse gas carbon dioxide CO2 to about 400,000 tons per year.

 The project was registered by the (UNFCCC) as a CDM project also making carbon eligible for the sale in the global market of the major industrialized countries Annex1 .
